Hazardous Substances & Work Safety

26 March 2009
Chemicals and other dangerous substances in the workplace continue to pose serious risks for the health of workers, says a new European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) report. The study estimates that 74,000 deaths take place each year because of hazardous substances encountered in the workplace. Around 15% of European workers are thought to handle chemical products for a quarter of the time they spend at work while chemicals are responsible for 80-90% of skin diseases. Nanotechnology was also identified as one of the potential risks causing most concern.
