Illegal Waste Shipment Proposal

The Swedish government has proposed tougher rules to combat the illegal transport and dumping of waste abroad. Under the proposed law, companies sending unauthorised shipments overseas could be prosecuted before departure. As the law stands, prosecution is only possible once the waste has arrived at its destination – most often in a developing country. It applies to a range of items such as discarded refrigerators and freezers, scrapped cars, chemical waste, computers or mobile phones.
