Ireland to Invest in Tidal Energy

20 October 2009
The Irish government has pledged financial assistance to a joint Irish-Swedish venture, which aims to be the world’s first commercially viable ocean energy generator. This decision follows on from last week’s €4.3 million Government investment in ten ocean energy companies, as part of the overall National Ocean Energy Strategy. This Strategy will see over 500MW (megawatts) of ocean energy generated by 2020 with the new Irish-Swedish joint venture delivering over 250 MW (megawatts) of electricity in that timeframe.
