Irish Poultry Sector Angered

The Irish Department of Defence has begun sourcing poultry products from abroad, much to the anger of the local poultry industry. The sector has condemned the Ministry for not supporting national poultry producers, who face difficulties competing with the Northern Irish poultry industry because of tough economic conditions. The current exchange rate means that labour costs and electricity expenses north of the Irish border are 22% more advantageous. The Minister of Defense Willie O’Shea says he is committed to supporting Irish poultry producers in forthcoming tenders.
