Italy: Workplace Deaths Down

The number of workplace fatalities in Italy has fallen for the first time in 57 years, according to a new report. A 7.2% decrease in work-related deaths was observed in 2008 with 1,120 deaths reported, less than 1,200 for the first time since 1951. The overall fall in the period 2001-2008 has been put at 28%. The workplace accident rate also fell by 4.1% last year compared to 2007, with a 14.5% reduction observed over the 2001-2008 period.
