A 42-year lorry driver was thrown 15 metres into the air by an explosion at the West Docks in Palma de Mallorca yesterday. He later died of his injuries. The cause of the explosion was likely to have been the highly pressurised air inside the lorry’s container tank, which exploded when he opened the hatchway to fill it with a load of cement. Investigators are currently establishing whether negligence charges should be brought against the driver’s employers.
