Meat Price Fixing Investigation

31 August 2009
A total of 19 companies in the meat industry, including leading brands, will be further investigated for alleged anti-competitive behaviour by Germany’s Federal Competition Office (Bundeskartellamt). This announcement follows an initial investigation, begun in mid July, which unearthed ‘substantial evidence’ of price fixing between the years 2003 and 2008. This investigation is only the latest in a number of antitrust investigations which have targeted the food industry in Germany. The results of an investigation into sugar production are expected in late autumn.
