Measures might be taken to prevent the dangers produced by passive smoking at the place of work, according to the Health and Safety Department of the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI). There are about 7.5 million such workers in the European Union. Passive smoking can lead to an increased risk of lung cancer, cardiovascular mortality and respiratory diseases. It may also cause many problems with reproductive health. Companies and organisations might be asked to take specific measures to protect non-smoking workers from such risks.
