Nanotech Risk Assessment Launched

12 May 2009
A major research project on the risk assessment of engineered nanoparticles has been launched under the auspices of the Scottish research institute IOM (Institute of Occupational Health). The multinational project, entitled ENPRA (engineered NanoParticle Risk Assessment), aims to develop a risk-assessment method to complement and improve on the currently used exposure-dose-response method. Risks arising from nanotechnologies remain largely unknown due to the absence of an effective risk assessment method. The underlying aim of this €3.7m research project is to promote the sustainable and safe use of nanotechnologies and establish both consumer and worker confidence.
