New Food Safety Unit in Belfast

A €2.2 million food safety centre, which will conduct research into the quality and safety of food across Ireland, has opened in Belfast. The centre will support the local agri-food industry, which generates €2.7 billion in sales and employs 12% of the private sector. The new institution is Part-funded by the Department for Employment and Learning, the new centre has links with Ashtown Food Research Centre in Dublin, Dublin City University and University College Dublin.
