Night Flight Ban Proposed

01 September 2009
Portugal’s Environmental Protection Agency Quercus has proposed banning flights in and out of Lisbon’s Portela Airport and the Sá Carneiro Airport in Oporto between midnight and 6am in order to protect the health of populations in neighbouring areas. According to Quercus, people who live near airports, particularly those near runways, display high levels of stress, headaches, high blood pressure and a higher risk of diabetes. The proposal is now set to be discussed by the Ministries for the Environment and Public Works.
