Novel Food Application for Honey

Novel food approval has been sought in the UK for honey with honeybee venom. Bee venom as a treatment for arthritis has been gaining in popularity in recent years, and a New Zealand company is looking to expand its products into Europe. The company milks the venom, which is then dried and added to honey. Although there is no conclusive scientific evidence to suggest that honeybee venom is effective in alleviating arthritis, the product has proved popular in other parts of the world.
