Italy, which closed its last two nuclear plants after the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1986, now plans to build up to 10 new reactors, and Finland is currently building facilities for long-term nuclear waste storage. Supporters claim that nuclear is the only large-scale technology capable of generating zero emission power.
