Overweight Workers Study

02 July 2009
Overweight workers cost employers more in terms of medical expenses and absence from work due to illness, claims a new report. The study suggests there is a correlation between employees’ Body Mass Index (BMI), which determines if a person is overweight, and lost workdays and work related injuries. Overweight people are more at risk of heart diseases, diabetes, arthritis and some forms of cancer. In addition they are more at risk from work-related injuries, in particular back, wrist, knee, foot, hip, arm and shoulder injuries. The study suggests that these issues can be partly tackled by improved work stations and prevention measures.
