Harmonised industry standards are needed to encourage more people to recycle their phones, says European mobile phone recycling and reuse provider Regenersis. All personal data from handsets should be removed, the export of broken handsets should be banned and a zero landfill policy should be put in place. Regenersis claims that a recent sample of 2000 handsets showed that 99% contained some sort of personal data. The company says that these measures would ensure that both the consumer and the environment are better protected.
