Photovoltaic Energy Growth in Europe

27 April 2009
The photovoltaic solar energy sector in Europe grew by 152% in 2008, according to figures released by renewable energy analyst EurObserv’ER. The majority of new installations were introduced in Germany and Spain, which in 2008 together accounted for 4.2 gigawatt-peak (GWp) capacity. The overall capacity of the EU is currently 9.5 GWp, but EurObserv’ER predicts that this will almost double by the end of 2010. The EU continues to be the leader in the global solar power market, with about 80% of the world's installed capacity.
