Europe’s plastics recycling industry needs private sector support in order to ensure its long-term survival, says the European Association of Plastics Recycling and Recovery Organisations (EPRO). The group argues that direct intervention from government is not the solution, as this could unnecessarily disrupt the market. EPRO says that business and private initiative plastic recycling schemes are the way forward. In order for this to happen though, the supply side of the industry must become more professional, efficient and transparent, and new products should be designed with recycling in mind.
