Poland & Hungary Weather Changes

24 June 2009
Poland and Hungary will develop weather patterns similar to Mediterranean countries by the middle of the century, says the World Bank. By 2050, the two countries will have 37 days per year above 30 degrees Celsius, up from 22 days in 1999. The World Bank also warns that Eastern Europe is more likely to experience frequent floods, droughts, storms and forest fires due to poor environmental management during the Soviet era. The main risks highlighted include pollution trapped in soils that could leak out and poorly constructed ports, roads, and houses that may be affected because of global warming.
