Polish Functional Food Study

17 June 2009
A new study on functional food consumption in Poland has found that both the elderly and the young consume products such as fruit, vegetables, high fibre food and cholesterol lowering spreads at similar levels. Some food product categories such as probiotic yoghurt drinks, foods with added vitamins and/or minerals and energy drinks however were clearly favoured by the younger population. The study, which involved 1005 adults aged 15 and over, also found that elderly Poles were more concerned about obesity and diabetes. The researchers suggest that an awareness of high health risks to the elderly should be used as an element of functional food advertising.
