Portuguese Plans for Car Recharging

01 July 2009
Portugal plans to build a nationwide recharging network for electric vehicles. Around 1300 recharging points in 21 municipalities are planned to be operational by 2011. Recharging points will be available in car parks, shopping centres, petrol stations, hotels, airports and along public roads. The Portuguese government hopes this will promote electric car sales and in turn help the country to achieve its target of 10% zero-emission vehicles in its car fleet by 2020. Portugal is the first country in the EU to propose such a network.
