Possible Life Extension for Coal Plants

The European Union might agree to prolong old coal-fired power stations until 2020 on the condition that they scale back their operating hours. This is intended to end the opposition from member states with coal-powered economies who fear energy shortages. On the other hand, such a measure is likely to be criticized by environmentalists who would want coal to be swiftly phased out because of its contribution at global warming.
