Questions Over ‘Estonia’ Sinking

A public prosecutor in Estonia has demanded a fresh investigation of the sinking of the Scandinavian ferry the ‘Estonia’, on the 15th anniversary of the tragedy in which only 137 of the 989 people on board survived. The prosecutor has called for a more intensive diving operation to investigate rumours that the sinking was caused by explosive freight on board the vessel. The Estonian government is unlikely to accept the request – it considers that the case is closed and that faulty bow doors caused the accident.
