Recession Demand for Out-of-Date Food

Combine the financial crisis with contemporary environmental concerns and you get some interesting solutions. In the UK for example, one online business is doing a roaring trade by buying food products past their ‘best before’ date and selling them to consumers at significantly lower prices. Demand, apparently, is extremely high. Food waste has become a political issue across Europe; in the UK alone, 4.1m tonnes of supermarket food is thrown away every year by consumers.
