Salmonella Top Food-Borne Illness

Salmonella has again been confirmed as the most prevalent cause of food-borne illness in Europe. The Centre for Disease Prevention and Control says in a new survey that Salmonella is responsible for 4 in every 10 reported outbreaks of food poisoning. Consumers are advised to be careful with eggs, as products containing eggs are most frequently involved in Salmonella outbreaks. Salmonella-related illnesses led to 10 deaths in 2007. Food-borne viruses and Campylobacter were the second and third most common forms of food-borne illness identified.
