Sciatica has been found to be a significant factor in causing workers to retire early, according to a Finnish study. Workers most exposed to the condition are those who have to lift or carry heavy loads. The Finnish findings raise the question of whether the rehabilitation of workers suffering from sciatica has been sufficiently explored, or whether workers at risk are properly educated and protected. Sciatica is caused when nerve roots leading to the sciatic nerve is irritated, leading to pain in the lower back and legs.
