Solar Powered Plane Launched

A Swiss plane, which has taken 6 years to design and build, plans to make the first ever solar powered flight around the earth. The plane, called Solar Impulse, weighs less than the average car will be powered by 12,000 solar cells on the wings. Current technological limitations however mean that the plane must avoid rain and storms in order to successfully collect energy. Nonetheless, the designer said that he hoped the plane would one day demonstrate that solar powered flight could be a viable form of air travel.
