Spain, Italy to Miss Cage Ban Deadline

Delegates to the International Egg Commission conference in Vancouver, Canada, were told yesterday that Spain and Italy were unlikely to meet the EU’s 2012 deadline for a ban on the use of conventional cages in egg farming. Spain is unlikely to meet the deadline as a compensation payments offered by the government to egg farmers have not been forthcoming, while in Italy the relevant legislation has not been translated properly into Italian law.
