Further Forest Fires Likely

17 August 2009
Europe should expect ‘more intense and out of control’ fires in future as a result of climate change, according to a report released by Greenpeace in Spain. The report comes in the wake of another devastating summer in which some 200,000 hectares of forest have been lost to fires - considerably more than in the whole of 2008, where 158,621 hectares were destroyed. The report calls on the EU and governments across the world to prioritise efforts to reverse deforestation trends.
