Spanish Salmonella Project

25 June 2009
A pioneering project in Andalusia, Spain has been launched to control and minimise the presence of salmonella in the Iberian pig in order to improve the safety of food products. The researchers also hope to identify the presence of other diseases such as listeriosis, tuberculosis, campylobacteriosis or trichinellosis. The project will assess the pre-slaughter process of animals and establish codes of good hygienic practices applicable throughout the whole food chain. The €578,000 project s backed by Corporación Tecnológica de Andalucía (CTA), a private foundation promoted by the Innovation Ministry of the Andalusian Government.
