Sweden: No More Cigarette Breaks

28 August 2009
Smokers employed by the city of Stockholm will no longer be allowed to take cigarette breaks while at work if a proposal, announced yesterday, is approved. The proposed ban comes in the wake of a report published this week by the Swedish Public Health Institute that calculates the cost to all municipalities in Sweden of their employees’ smoking related illnesses and cigarette breaks at €255 million. If the ban is approved, it will come into force from 1 May next year.
