Swedish Food Guidelines Published

29 June 2009
Sweden is preparing a new set of dietary guidelines that take into account environmental aspects as well as health concerns. The aim is to help consumers make healthier but also more environmentally friendly choices. Reducing meat consumption and choosing locally produced meat from animals fed on natural grasslands, for instance, would have a positive impact both on greenhouse gas emissions and health. The Swedish National Food Administration has circulated these guidelines to other European countries for feedback. Sweden hopes to introduce these guidelines in autumn 2009.
