Swedish Robot Attacks Factory Worker

30 April 2009
A Swedish company has been fined €2,300 for a robot attack that almost killed one of its workers. The accident took place in a factory north of Stockholm in June 2007, when a worker started performing maintenance work on the robot without making sure it had been deactivated. The machine, used to lift heavy rocks, seized the victim’s head and caused four broken ribs. The accident has been under investigation by the Swedish Work Environment Authority and the police. The ruling put some of the blame on the worker for not ensuring that the machine was not operating.
