UK Firm Fined Over Asbestos Exposure

10 April 2009
West Midlands metal laser-cutting firm Secal Laser has been fined €20,000 for exposing two workers to asbestos. The managing director of the firm instructed two employees to remove insulation boards from within his factory even though he was aware of the presence of asbestos, the ruling found. According to the court, the firm failed to ensure that removal was undertaken by a licensed company and consciously exposed the workers to serious risk of inhaling carcinogenic substances.
