UK Incentives for Electric Cars

16 April 2009
Consumers in the UK could receive up to £5,000 if they purchase an electric car. The incentive is part of a £250m strategy to revolutionise the country’s road transport network. Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon said that decarbonising road transport was extremely important in helping the country reduce CO2 emissions by 26% by 2020 and 80% by 2050. Various models of electric cars will be made available to the public. The aim is to get people used to electric cars, as these will become “quite normal and usual” in the future, said the transport secretary.
