Protests against the use of foreign workers at a UK refinery have spread to Sellafield nuclear plant. Around 900 construction contractors at the plant have walked out in protest over an Italian contractor bringing in its own staff. The workers claim that the use of labour from overseas could lead to an erosion of wages and conditions for all concerned because these workers are paid less than UK workers. They also claim that is an example of discrimination in recruitment practice against British workers.
