Around Europe: Policy-Relevant European News Briefs

Vegetarian Health Report Published

07 July 2009
Vegetarians are less at risk of contracting blood, bladder and stomach cancers than meat eaters, claims new research. Participants in the study were drawn from a pool of UK men and women who were either meat eaters or vegetarians. Over a 12 year timespan, 33 out of 100 meat eaters developed some form of cancer, while only 29 out of 100 non-meat eaters did so. The research, which was published in the British Journal of Cancer, emphasised that none of the findings were conclusive. The authors believe that more research is needed to substantiate the results.
