White Tea Extract Fights Fat?

07 May 2009
An extract from the white tea plant could decrease the creation of new fat cells and act to empty out existing ones, a German study has claimed. Researchers from Beiersdorf say that the naturally active substances responsible in white tea are methylxanthines (similar to caffeine) and epigallocatechin-3-gallate. White tea extract could therefore become a significant ingredient for the diet and slimming food market. This market has grown in parallel with an increasing awareness of Europe’s obesity problem. In the UK alone, about a quarter of the population is now obese, with almost 60% of the population predicted to be obese by 2050.
