Whitehall: Now We Know

Long working hours may have a negative effect on cognitive performance in middle age, French and Finnish researchers have concluded. Middle-age workers putting in more than 55 hours a week scored less in vocabulary and reasoning tests than those working 40 hours at the most. Data was collected from a study of 2,214 full-time-employed British civil servants, who had given previous data on cognitive tests.
