Whole Harvesting Not Best for Forests

Leaving stumps, branches and leaves behind after forestry harvesting could lead to more productive forestry crops and healthier forest soil. A European-funded study suggests that trees planted in areas subjected to the Whole Harvesting Method – where nothing of the tree is left – are smaller and shorter than trees planted after conventionally harvested trees - where stumps and branches are left behind.
