Italy: Three Killed in Gas Accident
27 May 2009
An industrial accident at a desulphurisation unit in Italy has killed 3 maintenance contractors. Though the plant had been switched off for vital maintenance work to be carried out, toxic gases managed to seep in, killing two of the workers trapped inside. Investigators believe that 1 of the workers died trying to rescue the others. Two other workers managed to survive the accident and are currently being treated in a Cagliari hospital. Officials are investigating the accident.
